'what we see ... depends ... on what we look for'
We pray to see the following accomplishments at the end of this meeting : the Holy Synod gets back its full authority to lead the church; the ninjas who emaciated the church are erradicated from the house; the members of the HS are unified to maintain the honor and grace of the church. Until we see these, we don't have to enjoy or sit back and say, 'temesgen'. Let us rather pray and do what we can do.

Great Job
It should not be questioned that our church should use what God avails to his children today - the technology! That should be the must win challenge our church has already faced because of the 19th century mentality its leaders are weird of. We all are proud of the well articulated and truly biblical teachings of our mother church. Its dogma is divinely formulated upon which prescribed is its canon and cultivated the enormous body of tradition we find in the day to day life of the church. We should unearth all these wealth so that the spiritually deserted world can get rest in the Hands of the Almighty God. One or (at this era of technology) best way to accomplish this heavenly task should be using the technology. So much so for the intro and now comes what we called the 'Great Job'.
Deje - Selam, the most vocal blog which (in its own way) is fighting the good fight to clean the house from the Ninjas has come up with an online petition which should be signed by everybody who want to see prosperous Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church and, after all, Ethiopia. Azekiri, as it was one of the proposals she forwarded a couple of months ago, would like to express its heartfelt admiration to the blog and the team which worked hard to make that happen. We wish we could get the petition online a couple of weeks ago for it could reach to the eyes of all the holy synod members especially those who lead different Diaspora dioceses. We could even ask them to take the petition with them as it goes to their responsibility. But we are not late. let us all sign the petition and we hope the bloggers will have a way to make it read before the inauguration of the much expected and much wished to be historic Synodal Assembly.

We are back!
Lord's Greetings. We thank Him for giving us this new year, the year when there are catalogues of activities to do ahead of us; the year when we should, by any means, see change in the house. The evil is deep rooted in that 'old' house and it is naive to say that it will be easily uprooted. It could be so if its root would have remained dry as we saw in the beginning of the just over summer. It lacked water and its distraction was happening to be true. But since that month of frustration, it worked hard to get revived and invested much to spare its position. Here are some of the activities carried:
1. The most visible measures it took are what we called (in our previous blog) the LIAR: Lessening, Intimidation, Arbiter, Reconcilation. It lessened the case into something caused by 'some trouble makers' who have 'political agenda' and 'wanted to satisfy their economic thirsty' out of the chaos. Quite big amount of money was invested to propagate this point. Working hard to lessen the issue, the 'owners' of the house have also used their muscle to intimidate those who are categorized as 'dangers' of the house.
2. Riding the stage with government officials: much has been said about the involvement of the government in the April's turmoil. There were some who said that government security forces intimidated the fathers in that horrible night. It might be or might not be. We don't know for sure. But this is what we know - the government is reluctant to examine the crime done to the fathers who were running their 'state' (EOTC) in their 'Parlament' (the Holy Synod). They were doing their jobs legally. But something illegal has been done to them. And the government had to act as a responsible body searching for the criminals and put them in court. However we couldn't meet our expectation which may add our suspicion that the government or its part had a hidden hand in that ugly action of that ugly night. The 'house' is benefiting much from all these speculations and suspicions. It keeps using the government's face to intimidate its 'enemies'. Those who were supporting the change movement have been intimidated by either the ninjas or government officials or both.
We saw this stamp of strategy straight out on ETV when the government supported the house with its intimidation of the institution which is called (by many) the hope of EOTC in the 21st century. According to the news, the government officials warned the association that it should respect the law and distant itself from politics and administration. The news is confusing and we expect it will be clarified either by the association or the government. As usual we might not question if the government warns its citizens or institutions in the country not to touch politics. Because not it is true but that is what we are accustomed with as citizens of that country. But how on earth a government warns an institution to refrain itself from acting within its boundary??? Funny. And till when we are going to see 'Governod' (Governmental Synod)? Where is freedom of religion then???
We hear and read much about this institution called Mahibere Kidusan. Without evaluating its achievements compairing with its potential, no one could deny that this is an institution (built by willing, non-paid, educated youths) which is trying to address the variegated problems of our church. Let alone a bigger faith based institution like Mahibere Kidusan who is playing in the middle of the field, an Orthodox individual will be churned by the today's complicated problems of the church. We hope members of this association know this very well. Given their devoution and eagerness to serve the today's church, their existence in the field might not be useful unless the field is opportune for the game. So they should work hard to make the field okay for the much desired game we want to see our church play in the centuries to come. It is the period for them to be tested. We are hopeful that the management of the association and thousands of its members do not want to see a bigger Orthodox institution while the main body is getting small and in agony to die. So it is the time for the relatively experienced Mahibere Kidusan to start acting to spare our ecclessiastic instituion - bete kihinet. We witness that the association contributed much to spare the church. But now is the time to spare the instituion which plays a significant role to 'kill' the church. The ninjas should be driven out of that instituition so that the house can live its cause!!! Let us joing hands.

What is Up?
1. Lessening: the ninjas are trying to lessen the gravity of the opposition of the Holy Synod we saw last April. Presenting individuals or institutions as the main architects of the opposition is their strategy in line. They are crying, 'had it not been for the individuals and institutions that misguided the fathers behind the curtain, we couldn't see all the chaos'. Among the institutions under fire is Mahibere Kidusan, a youth association established by the church during the first years of the current Patriarch in office. ( Deje Selam reported their evil move).
My call: put an eye on the main picture and don't be duped with their cuckoo strategy!
2. Intimidation: we cannot believe how the ninjas are intimidating the Archbishops, Priests and laities who, in one way or the other, involved in promoting the change call we heard last spring. But most of the intimidants are strong with a belief that all will be over in October.
My call: give calls to those you think are subjected to this intimidation and express your support to them and the agenda they brought to the table.
3. Arbiter: the ninjas have already selected and trained managers of few dioceses who are going to denounce the fathers who called for change at the General Parish Council to be held in the preceding week of the Assmebly of Holy Synod.
My call: reach the managers of the dioceses where we come from and make your point.
4. Reconciliation: reconciliation too is in their option. There are some who are under pressure to be reconciled with the 'house' and drop their agenda of change .
My call: yes reconciliation and peace should prevail in the church, the gate to peace. But it should not cost the golden agenda and cannot be considered as long as the ninjas (anti peace and prosperity of the church) are in the house.

The October relief we are waiting for
less than two months left for the week we are waiting for a fundamental relief. AD21 believes that there is plenty of jobs to be done yet. We read statements from different churches and associations. We have learnt that laities are doing their part in reaching the fathers (members of the Holy Synod) with the statements. And today, we read that a group has took the task of drafting an online petition. We are happy for that as it was one of the proposals forwarded by AD21 almost a month ago. But, as we read in the blog, we afraid that the launching of the petition may take some time - which should not be actually. We wish and ask the group to move forward as fast as possible given the short period of time we are left with. So all is going well though not to the satisfaction of AD21. But still there two main bodies we are waiting to hear from: the so calld sidetegnaw synodos and the alem aqef ye meemnan hibret. The fathers who are in the other part of the island should come out and say, we are here to help the mother church if there come a true initiative to cure the house. They should say, the church should get the primary attention and care than the father x or y as both will pass as they come to this world. The once flowered EOTC Laity Council too should wake up.

Thank you Again!!!
1. to re discuss the crises and come up with a stronger statement claiming the change we badly need in a louder way. This is what the union promised to do - 'to preserve the rules, order and faith of our Church and committed to the future by doing as our fathers did for us with full responsibility.' There should not be other agenda to be discussed at this critical time of our Church.
2. the Union has invited all Sunday Schools in NA to attend its Annual Meeting - all Sunday Schools are invited. So, we call upon all Sunday Schools in the states to send their representatives that the Youth - the Future of the Church - can discuss the complicated problems we are languishing and come with a strong resolutions as a body of the one church which should carry the burden of the tomorrow's church.
Bottom Line: AD21 received a couple of emails which answered our yesterday's call to collect the resolutions coming out from different bodies of the church and send them home. We have learnt that there are individuals who are accomplishing this important duty in one or the other way. We appreciate that. But the effort should not be limited to some individuals. We all have the responsibility to publicise the resolutions and make sure that the statements are reaching to the fathers. Please let us move forward before that week come.

Thank you!
We are astonished by the thoughtful statement dispatched from the Council of the EOTC in Diaspora. The statement will clearly help the laity to understand where the council stands not only on the current crisis but also on its perception of the one church in general. It is astonishing to read about its ongoing effort to mediate the central administration of the church and the fathers abroad. It is breathtaking to get informed that they formed a team which study the church's problem and forward its solution making proposals. It fills hope in the deserted heart of the laity. We know that there are strong parishes titled in the council who can contribute much for the betterment of our mother church. We pray that this initiative won't be halted by what they call 'the enemy' (Matt. 13: 28). The enemy might be money, race, etc. These things do not have place in the one church.
So who is next? Where is the Senbet Timihirt Betoch hibret in NA? Where are the churches in Canada, South America, Europe (we heard from Germany last time), etc.
One proposal:
This blogger afraid that these (1, 2, 3, sympathetic statements from different corners are not reaching at the place where they should reach - the patriarchate, members of the Holy Synod, local media, etc. So apart from the bodies who are dispatching them, we all have the responsibility to fax, mail and email the statements to the mentioned parties. As most of them are coming out with official letter heads, it won't be a problem if any individual can send them.

Unbelievable ... Stop it!!!
1. Wrong time and place: the season we are in [Nehase 1 - 16] has a special place in the minds and bodies of our laities. It is the time when sons and daughters of the church devoted themselves into the veneration of our Perpetual Lady Virgin Mary, the Mother of God. For them, it is an occasion for spiritual renaissance or renewal. It is the spring of their spiritual life. Through fasting, they are fighting for the mastery of their spirit over their body. They (old and young, men and women) take care for this fast in a manner that exceeds description. All these forceful ascetism is in regard of the great love of people for the Virgin. At this high time of spiritual exercise devoted to the Virgin Mary, the mentioned parish come with a point of argument which can obviously destruct the people from its spiritual meditation. And the place the parish selected to out voice its opposition is a secular internet. The parish even invited the people to attend the Archbishop's (Egyptian) sermon on the topic. What a pity? Now apart from our spiritual devotions, we are crying for god to give her his Devine solution from the complicated problem she is.
2. The Procedure: the issue they raise has been exhaustively discussed, argued, and decided. We know the church has already made her stand clear on the issue. Bunch of publications have been released institutionally and individually which carry the teaching of the ancient and Apostolic EOTC regarding the Immaculate Conception. So why they wanted to raise it now in a very unprocedural way? They are foolish even criminals if they are simply inviting the Copt Archbishop to sow what he want to sow. First, they could invite the Ethiopian Archbishops in North America or plenty of church scholars who can explain the issue and the teaching of the church to the laity. Who is the Copt Archbishop here? Okay, let it be. But is there someone from the church who can defend the much analyzed teaching of the church? Are they sure that they are raising this issue out of an innocent interest to know about the Virgin? Are they still sure that they are not serving as agents of the oppositions of the teachings of the church? Is it the right way to address this kind of issue in an open discussion where innocent parish members are participating?
My call!!!
I strongly believe that discussions are important to clear confusions and misunderstandings. But I equally believe that when the topic to be discussed goes with dogmas and canons of the church, serious care should be in place. First, there is no room for these sorts of arguments to be aired at a parish level. It is something to be rediscussed, revisited and refigured (if it is necessary at all) at the highest level of the Church's spiritual administration - the Holy Synod. As to me, I don't see any fault in the Scholars Council and the Patriarchate whom they accused of ignoring their question. It is already discussed and proclaimed in books. As a parish, they could search for the books and read.
Stop it please!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amen to your golden conclusion, Amaha. [Pls listen his report at VOA until 'others' post it fully] Your expectation is ours too. We expect it [the Holy Synod] to give solutions to the plenty of problems in the house. But in the aged old tradition [of the house] where voices matters than principles, we are not sure that voices are sufficiently aired to let the fathers feel their responsibility, understand what we are expecting from them in october.
My surprisings regarding yesterday's press conference:
1. Timing: in two ways - we know that public relation is one of the dead activities of the church, a big institution which runs the biggest part of the nation. The laity has long been deprived of its right to hear about the activities of the church. But when the house gets confused and frightened by the scilence of the laity, here it came now to tell us this and that - even budget of the coming fisical year. Where did it sleep for such long? The second funny thing about the timing is the date chosen for the press conference. It is Nehase 1, the beginning of the highly adored fasting season for Ethiopians.
2. Budgeting: history is recorded yesterday, wow. As far as we know, for the first time in the history of the church when the patriarchate announce its annual budget. We will wittness another remarkable history when a professionally done audit report is openly pronounced. BUT from where the house got the mentioned figure (104 mill. Eth. Birr)? The presumption is that it is a clearly cooked figure by the Ninjas. Who did approve the figure? We know that the Holy Synod didn't discuss on budgets in May as always. For which activities is the mentioned budget planned? From which account will it be payed? So, come n' friends, we are taken as puppies.
3. The Committee: we know it is castrated by the house. Of course the said four members contributed for their castration. They left their office for the Ninjas. The Ninjas are successful in that regard. And we heard from the Patriarch that 'it is their responsibility to say this and that about the wrong doings in the house' while he at the same time confirmed that some of them have quitted their jobs. The Patriarch was generous in offering them offices and materials.
What members of the Holy Synod should learn from yesterday's press conference?
1. cooking figure is usual in the house.
2. it is only the Ninjas who discuss and approve budgets.
3. the laity want to hear a deeply discussed and authorized plan by the Holy Synod, not the one by the Ninjas.
4. the laity want to hear a professionally done annual audit report.
5. the laity expect you in October to come with strong decisions and solution making strategies about the overall church's problem.
What the laity should learn fróm the conference?
1. the house is confused
2. loud our voices that the house will be okayed for change

On Fasting
St. John Chrysostom
Fasting is a medicine. But medicine, as beneficial as it is, becomes useless because of the inexperience of the user. He has to know the appropriate time that the medicine should be taken and the right amount of medicine and the condition of the body which is to take it, the weather conditions and the season of the year and the appropriate diet of the sick and many other things. If any of these things are overlooked, the medicine will do more harm than good. So, if one who is going to heal the body needs so much accuracy, when we care for the soul and are concerned about healing it from bad thoughts, it is necessary to examine and observe everything with every possible detail
Fasting is the change of every part of our life, because the sacrifice of the fast is not the abstinence but the distancing from sins. Therefore, whoever limits the fast to the deprivation of food, he is the one who, in reality, abhors and ridicules the fast. Are you fasting? Show me your fast with your works. Which works? If you see someone who is poor, show him mercy. If you see an enemy, reconcile with him. If you see a friend who is becoming successful, do not be jealous of him! If you see a beautiful woman on the street, pass her by.
In other words, not only should the mouth fast, but the eyes and the legs and the arms and all the other parts of the body should fast as well. Let the hands fast, remaining clean from stealing and greediness. Let the legs fast, avoiding roads which lead to sinful sights. Let the eyes fast by not fixing themselves on beautiful faces and by not observing the beauty of others. You are not eating meat, are you? You should not eat debauchery with your eyes as well. Let your hearing also fast. The fast of hearing is not to accept bad talk against others and sly defamations.
Let the mouth fast from disgraceful and abusive words, because, what gain is there when, on the one hand we avoid eating chicken and fish and, on the other, we chew-up and consume our brothers? He who condemns and blasphemes is as if he has eaten brotherly meat, as if he has bitten into the flesh of his fellow man. It is because of this that Paul frightened us, saying: "If you chew up and consume one another be careful that you do not annihilate yourselves.
You did not thrust your teeth into the flesh (of your neighbor) but you thrusted bad talk in his soul; you wounded it by spreading disfame, causing unestimatable damage both to yourself, to him, and to many others.
If you cannot go without eating all day because of an ailment of the body, beloved one, no logical man will be able to criticize you for that. Besides, we have a Lord who is meek and loving (philanthropic) and who does not ask for anything beyond our power. Because he neither requires the abstinence from foods, neither that the fast take place for the simple sake of fasting, neither is its aim that we remain with empty stomachs, but that we fast to offer our entire selves to the dedication of spiritual things, having distanced ourselves from secular things. If we regulated our life with a sober mind and directed all of our interest toward spiritual things, and if we ate as much as we needed to satisfy our necessary needs and offered our entire lives to good works, we would not have any need of the help rendered by the fast. But because human nature is indifferent and gives itself over mostly to comforts and gratifications, for this reason the philanthropic Lord, like a loving and caring father, devised the therapy of the fast for us, so that our gratifications would be completely stopped and that our worldly cares be transferred to spiritual works. So, if there are some who have gathered here and who are hindered by somatic ailments and cannot remain without food, I advise them to nullify the somatic ailment and not to deprive themselves from this spiritual teaching, but to care for it even more.
For there exist, there really exist, ways which are even more important than abstinence from food which can open the gates which lead to God with boldness. He, therefore, who eats and cannot fast, let him display richer almsgiving, let him pray more, let him have a more intense desire to hear divine words. In this, our somatic illness is not a hindrance. Let him become reconciled with his enemies, let him distance from his soul every resentment. If he wants to accomplish these things, then he has done the true fast, which is what the Lord asks of us more than anything else. It is for this reason that he asks us to abstain from food, in order to place the flesh in subjection to the fulfillment of his commandments, whereby curbing its impetuousness. But if we are not about to offer to ourselves the help rendered by the fast because of bodily illness and at the same time display greater indifference, we will see ourselves in an unusual exaggerated way. For if the fast does not help us when all the aforementioned accomplishments are missing so much is the case when we display greater indifference because we cannot even use the medicine of fasting. Since you have learned these things from us, I pardon you, those who can, fast and you yourselves increase your acuteness and praiseworthy desire as much as possible.
To the brothers, though, who cannot fast because of bodily illness, encourage them not to abandon this spiritual word, teaching them and passing on to them all the things we say here, showing them that he who eats and drinks with moderation is not unworthy to hear these things but he who is indifferent and slack. You should tell them the bold and daring saying that "he who eats for the glory of the Lord eats and he who does not eat for the glory of the Lord does not eat and pleases God." For he who fasts pleases God because he has the strength to endure the fatigue of the fast and he that eats also pleases God because nothing of this sort can harm the salvation of his soul, as long as he does not want it to. Because our philanthropic God showed us so many ways by which we can, if we desire, take part in God's power that it is impossible to mention them all.
We have said enough about those who are missing, being that we want to eliminate them from the excuse of shame. For they should not be ashamed because food does not bring on shame but the act of some wrongdoing. Sin is a great shame. If we commit it not only should we feel ashamed but we should cover ourselves exactly the same way those who are wounded do. Even then we should not forsake ourselves but rush to confession and thanksgiving. We have such a Lord who asks nothing of us but to confess our sins, after the commitment of a sin which was due to our indifference, and to stop at that point and not to fall into the same one again. If we eat with moderation we should never be ashamed, because the Creator gave us such a body which cannot be supported in any other way except by receiving food. Let us only stop excessive food because that attributes a great deal to the health and well-being of the body.
Let us therefore in every way cast off every destructive madness so that we may gain the goods which have been promised to us in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Father and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The Bad Gets Worse...may be for Better?
The Quami Synodos is an administrative body of six members of the Holy Synod (four Archbishops who are nominated by the Holy Synod General Assembly and the Secretary (also an Archbishop) who has a period of four years in office. The team is chaired by the Patriarch. The team which is to leave office and the one to come are not like the former business as usual ones. Their responsibility is high as they assumed office at the high time of the house. The going out team did try its best to execute its responsibilities; but much is expected from the going in which will serve until the much expected October.
- members of the current Quami Synodos are Abunas Lukas, Enbaqom, Sawiros, Markos, Mattewos - they are chaired by the Patriarch. In four days, the term of the team will be over and the already nominated(by the Holy Synod) will come in power.
- members of the to be innagurated Quami Synodos (as of Nehase 1) will be Abunas Melke Tsedeq, Yared, Thomas, Endiryas.
- the current Hige Bete Kiristyan was ratified in 1991 E.C. when Abune Qerlos was the General Manager of the Patriarchate.
Abune Gerima (Chairman), ? Assefa Seyoum(Secretary), Melake Selam(?) Teshome Zerihun, Addis Yeshanew, Mikre Sillassie Gebre Amanuelk, Berhanu Gebre Amanuelk, Seife Sellassie Yohannes, Yishaq Tesfaye, Nebure Ed Elyas Abrha. We hope that these well known people won't write a strange history in the church's history book. Let us call who ever we know in the team. Let us make aware members of the Holy Synod in our areas that this is goin' on.
Other Developments
The Executive Body which was assigned by the Holy Synod has ceased its function. Except the two who differed from the rest (Abunas Estifanos and Gorgorious) the rest made their stand clear that it is impossible to work with the Patriarch and left their office. My view is not positive on that decision. Why? They could move forward and make something until October; or they could tell their decision to the Holy Synod in May.
The Patriarch is trying to ease the tension in between him and Abune Samuel. He is heard that 'he (Abune Samuel) is my son as a son and father, we will settle our differences'. And there are some people who are trying to mediate. But Abune Samuel looks to be very strong and not willing to negotiate.
Why I said all these???? Not to feed information please. It is my effort to kindly ask you (laities) to do what you can do from now to October.

Slander and Gossips are NOT Helpful!
So here is my further proposal:
Archbishops are in their respective dioceses waiting for the 2 weeks highly awaited fasting time. It will be a good chance for laities to meet the fathers in person. So let us push our parents, relatives, friends to ask them about the issue, to expresses their outrages about the disappointing action of the Ninjas attacking members of the Holy Synod. Let they demonstrate them their commitment that they will stand with them in defending the church. The same should be done to priests in charge of the morethan 25,000 parishes of EOTC.

Recapping my cries
I read a good wake up call from our Deje Selam today. As I frequently said, we should use our time and empower the fathers that they, in October, can push the most important agenda they could somehow raised last month. We don't have to wait for a wind of gossips and reports to move like we all did last time. This is a time God gave us to intensify the good fight. Let us organize clergies, laities, sunday schools, organizations in our neighbourhoods to come together and stand firm against the evils of our church. When we do so, the fathers will be energized to push the agenda forward and reach at a decision which enable our mother church show us her true beauty. I still believe that the seven question I threw at the eyes of the fathers are not invalid. I paste them here too:

I believe that all will be answered in October. But I equally believe that unless we do our part, the fathers will neither answer the above listed questions nor fulfil our wishes. So let us do our part defining the problems from general to particular and propose points which we think can be solutions.

so let me continue:
3. Let us consider the causes of the problem: to have a comprehensive solution for our problems, let us try to explore the ROOT causes of the problem our church is languishing in. Handful of reasons can be listed. Politics, carelessness of the laity i.e. handing over the church to the monks, because of bad players in and around the church, Abba x and Abba y, etc. etc...
4. Let us develop alternative solutions: once we list the causes of the problems, let us draw up a list of feasible alternatives that will meet our needs. Much alternatives can be listed if we put our minds together here or somewhere else.
5. Let us evaluate the listed alternatives and communicate them with the stakeholders (laities, fathers, spiritual associations, Sunday schools, the government, etc)
6. Let us chose the best alternative and implement it: After examining the alternatives on the three conditions listed above, let's select the one which best addresses the problem defined in the first step and LET'S be sure to check that the selected alternative is the one which best meets our objectives and priorities.
These are the steps which, I think, we should follow to meet our objectives. I will continue on how to move forward and realize the steps mentioned above.

1. Let us identify the problems of our church and define them clearly:
In the last 17 years, plenty of people showed up with their own lists and definitions of problems of our church. Different bodies mentioned what they believe are the main problems while the majority tried to define them in a narrower sense. Congreggations shouted, sunday schools cried, associations out voiced what measures should be taken, even some Archbishops started the mob. All ended up in vain. Because the staged problems lucked the representation of the full physique of the giant church. They look to be focused on the head. As to me this prevent the important stake holders from paying attention to other invisible problems. Therefore, let us clearly identify these problems and share each other. For the October General Assembly, we should outline the problems we want to be addressed by the HS and handover them in whatever way. When ever the number of my proposals increase below, the practical question which may come across into our mind will be answered.
2. Let us establish our objectives and priorities:
unless we establish our objectives, nothing will happen out of our cries and clamor. What was our objective to follow the 'concluded' turmoil in the patriarchate? What was our objective to support one idea over the other? What was our objective to discuss the issue with one another? What objective we still have to be achieved sooner or later? We should answer these questions before we engage our selves in the struggle to come. Our objectives should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound. But I kindly say this: let's set our objectives as soon as we can but at the same time, let us make sure that the objectives we are to work hard to achieve won't creat more new problems. I think we have to think seriously and identify all the other problems that will be created when the objective we set is achieved. Witness the invention of the atomic bomb. The problem raised to be solved by the time was how to drop 2 million tons of bombs on Japan using the least number of airplanes to accomplish this goal. Prior to the atom bomb, it took 1,000 B-29s to drop 200,000 tons of munitions on a Japanese city. The atom bomb allowed one airplane to do the work of 1,000. This was as far as the thinking went in July of 1945 when the decision was made to nuke Hiroshima and three other Japanese cities. Little did anyone consider that someday atomic bombs could be put in a suitcase and delivered by Federal Express to a city. Frankly speaking, if we are serious and loyal to the church's canon, the Ethiopian Orthodox Church should erase the third (HH Abune Tekle Haymanot) and the fifth (HH Abune Paulos) Patriarches from her Patriarchal history book. Because both were ordained while their predecessors were alive. But let us be lazies and accept our past history as it is. And at the same time, let us commit our selves not to repeat the weakest records of our history. As ordinary children of the church, let us not aim even think of removing the Patriarch from his chair. Let us give that part to those who have the full authority to do that.

I think by the resolutions listed, God has given us (children of the church) a big big big assignment which should be accomplished until the coming General Assembly (October). Now is the time to own our church!!!!!!! We should say no for another disappointments, no for the Ninjas to build their fortresses in our house, no for evils. Feeling the pain inside, I am convinced that the resolutions passed by the HS today is for good. It is not easy to clean a junk which has been garbaged for 20+ years by a month long disorganised movement. It should be a revolution which should be planned carefully and execute courageously (collectively). Now comes the time to practice my motto I picked when I start this blog - 'I blog what I feel is better for my Church'. I will post my views which should be considered in the struggle to cleanse the house from the Ninjas. You can also forward your own.

* before noon, HS (?) hold a meeting with less number of members. The Patriarch and Abune Samuel were out of the session. The following are the (to be confirmed) resolutions it reached:
- the Executive Committee will stay in action drafting laws and manuals for its further activities until the October General Holy Synod Assembly. Abune Samuel will stay in his secretary (of the Executive Com.) position.
- Abune Samuel will be away from his position as Archbishop of Addis Ababa until the HS will discuss the issue and decide in October. It is not clear who will run the diocese.
-the frightened fathers couldn't get justice from the responsible body.
it is quite clear that the tigers' attack came up with a success. It was designed to make the fathers disappointed or frightened so that the burning question can be changed into an icy story. So now the tigers and their owners have got enough time to design strategies to calm down the fathers for another 15 years.

Basic Cause: as said, it is due to the frustrations that there won't be any raw meat which will cross their throat down to their wide belly. Gluttons!!!!!!!!!
Immediate Cause: [can be called as 'the tale of the HS'] in their yesterday's meeting, the fathers presented one clear question to the Patriarch: 'do you believe in the rules and regulations of the Church?'. The Patriarch replied 'no, I don't!'. The surprised fathers asked, 'why?'. The Patriarch surprisingly replied, 'because it is a rule which you blindly drafted under pitch darkness' [though the fathers seemed not understood what he meant, he might be referring the dergue period - but he is totally wrong as the main rule was not drafted during that period]. The fathers more surprisingly forwarded him further question saying, 'so by what do you believe in as a Patriarch?' The Patriarch replied, 'by Didiscalia'. It was this time that the Patriarch lost almost all of his group. The fathers who were fully supporting him were loud condemning his view. It was this time that the Patriarch surrendered and accepted the decision of the HS to lift the ban he put on the Executive Committee. And the tigers were well aware that the HS is getting the momentum and will have more power to put the ultimate decisions in the meetings to come. So before they die, they had to attack and did what they did...attacking the house, attacking the church Not the fathers really. I will blog what I feel is right to be done here after. Please stay tune.
To briefly inform you what's up right now: the meeting is not started yet, the 'attacked' fathers are more energetic and ready to fight the good fight, Abune Samuel is 'under house arrest', the Patriarchate looks to stop its daily routine (wuha woqeta though), police has started probing and some are said to be arrested, ...
AD21
1. We should stay curious watching what will the government will do.
Our scared fathers have just began their meeting and they are expected to write a letter directly to the Prime Minister for the necessary probe of the case and protection. Their decision is wise as there seem to present a hidden wing in the government which is trying to calm down the fathers from speaking about the evil.
2. But in the meantime, we should believe from our heart that the time has come for the LORD to cast out the thieves and clean His House. (Luke 19:46). Let us pray!!!
3. To make our friends, sunday schools, parents back home aware of the situation. It was believed that the last night's horror could ignite the public to stand and condemn the evil action against the holy fathers. But it is reported that the public's attention is diverted to the court's decision today to free Teddy Afro from one year plus prison.

* Apart from the verbal and letter warning it sent this morning, the government has decided to push them into a decision by sending three representatives who took part in the Synodal (?) Meeting this afternoon. Almost all members of the four groups discussed in the previous blog took part in the meeting. It is said that the HS (?) listed the most burning agendas first and started tackling them. The first agenda which consumed the whole afternoon was the 'banned' Executive Committee and its fate. It is reported that the HS (?) lifted the ban. The Patriarch agreed with the decision.
* When the second agenda (Abune Samuel and his Diocese) came into line, the majority of the HS (?) members refused to discuss it without the presence of the subject (Abune Samuel). So the agenda is adjourned for tomorrow. Some members of the HS (?) asked the government representatives why security officers put Abune Samuel under house arrest. All of them unanimously replied that they know nothing about it.
* we have got four groups out of the one Holy Synod: (1) Extremes - those members who strongly positioned themselves in the stand that the Patriarch should be removed from power and reside in a monastery of his choice and the Executive committee should retain its power and execute the responsibilities it has been given. [this group by itself can be regrouped into two - Conservative Extremes and Liberal Extremes.] ; (2)Patriarch et als: those members who want the business as usual games. The Patriarch should continue excersing his full power, the EC should be eliminated or replaced by other members, the ongoing saga should be stopped and Archbishops should go back to their respective dioceses, ... (3) Power Brokers - those members who want to see the Patriarch on his Chair with a reduced power of administrative influence and the EC to restart its work perhaps with a different members. [The fathers in this side are said to be blackmailed by the Patriarch et als in their wrong doings before and after ordination. So they don't want to be part of the agenda. At a point it is heard that they were expelled out of the meetings of the first group]; (4) Neutrals: there are some 3/4 members who don't want to have a stand. They prefer to stay in a corner where they don't get touched by any of the sides.
* the members who are out of Addis (outside Ethiopia and in the regions) are said to have expressed their stand sending faxes to the office of the HS. The majority are commending the first group.
* the government: Bereket Semeon was quoted to say 'the problem in the church's synod is administrative which is closely watched by the government without any involvement but informing the members to fix the problem they have as soon as they can.' Today (15.07.09) a couple of hours ago, the office of Abay Tsehaye has ordered members of the HS to reach at a decision until this evening and copy their resolutions to the government.
* alerted by that call, the two sides are holding meetings now. It is believed that both will sign their respective resolutions and send the government before the day is over.
* different local media (private newspapers) are extensively reporting the turmoil though some of them look to be off the point and confusing the public with their biased reports and false sources.

* The Holy Synod has passed resolutions but not clear whether all members of the HS signed on the minute or not. Two of the resolutions written in the minute are: Abune Philipos will be the deputy (Enderasie) of HH who will be responsible in leading the church on behalf of the Synod. Abune Qerlos will lead the Meeting in the days to come.
* Representatives of the Holy Synod are expected to give a press conference soon.
* Abune Yishaq (the manager of the Patriarchate) has been removed from the position.
Let us pray!!!!!!!!!

1. HH lost the support of the Manager of the Patriarchate (Abune Yishaq) who served as an agent to defame the EC and Abune Samuel. Sources confirmed that he apologized the HS for the wrong doings;
2. those fathers who were in between the 'camps' have positioned themselves in the 'change' side;
3. the number of the policemen in and around the Patriarchate was almost doubled:
4. HH's health today was not okay.

* Members of the Holy Synod (more than 40, including members of the permanent synodal council) have arrived at Addis since Friday.
* as the canon of the church has it, members of the HS should perform the usual prayers one day before the commencement of the Holy Council. When the Office of the HS called for the prayer at Menbere Patryark Qidist Maryam Church, His Holiness (HH) informed the office that he won't take part in the prayer. Reason - he do not accept the meeting to be held as planned (today 07.07.09).
* sources confirmed that HH is well nourished by the wrong information that the HS will remove him from power. Not true, according to reliable sources. But one fact is true: almost 85% of the members of the HS are outrageous about his irresponsible action suspending the Executive Body (EB) the HS has established and the actions he took against Addis Ababa Diocese and its Archbishop. HH know this very well. And he is afraid of the challenge and reproach from the HS.
* the strategy HH (with his ignorant advisers) designed was the idea of involving 'outsiders' in the HS meeting. 'Outsiders': department heads of the patriarchate, dioceses' managers, heads of parishes in Addis and seniors citizens. This is shameful. We know that some selected fathers (monks) used to take part in the meeting in the 1950's and 60's. There were reasons for that. But it was stopped and clearly written in the HS's meeting procedure that no one is allowed (except for reporting purpose) to take part in the HS meetings except Archbishops. This was a poor strategy.
* members of the HS were against that idea. Yesterday, a clear and strong letter was written to HH: if he won't show up and chair the meeting, they will hold the meeting and decide on the agendas presented by the permanent HS council.
* HH understood the strong stand and the zero availability of rooms to win the support of some HS members. And he orally agreed to chair the meeting today. But the night passed and HH came up with a different idea. No, he said.
* Now, the HS meeting is going on with or without the presence of HH.
Predicted outcomes of the meeting:
1. they will postpone the meeting to next week. Because HH's ordinal annual celebration is going to be held on Hamle 5 (in five days). So not to blacken the 'colourful' celebration which observed by diplomats and other dignitaries.
if this will be so as predicted, I fear that many Archbishops will be either tortured (by the gangs in the patriarchate) or lobbied to drop their stand. Because all will stay in the compound of the Patriarchate and dine together with the Patriarch.
2. they will form one body who will be charged to solve the problem between HH vs Abunes Samuel and Timoteos
3. to corner members of the HS, HH is predicted to come up with the idea that he won't keep his position if Abunes Samuel and Timotewos will be kept in the EC.
I don't think the fathers will accept him. But I afraid that the golden one year for this EC to bring change in the church's administration will be ruined by this sort of dialogues which are supposed to be raised by HH and co.
The most excruciating view around the patriarchate today is the enormous amount of men in uniform. Shame!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Readers,
There is a strong belief that the ongoing turmoil in the Patriarchate will bring some changes for the Mother Church. But I know there are dozens who are skeptical about it. But lots of folks are optimists and saying, ‘’Now is the time for change’’. Here are five of the reasons why change is vital out of this visible taut:
1. the ones [in both sides] who’re in the forefront of the clash are from the same region: this closes any attempt to accuse one over the other giving any political color.
2. the government looks to be in favor of the truth i.e. the wing which argues that this church need a better administration. But that doesn’t mean that the other part is free from the touch of the government; not so strong and bold though.
3. the majority of Holy Synod members are said to be in favor of change
4. different bodies (senior citizens, scholars, associations, etc.) are whispered making their stand clear in a tougher way. The exiled fathers are also among these bodies.
5. the patriarch has been informed [by the group who stand against him] that if he won’t cooperate and bring the change in demand, there will come more stories and facts which will put him in danger more than he is now.
Let us hope and pray that the change we desperately need will come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The beginning of the beginnings
Dear Children of the Church,
Having talked to much with friends, run gossips and crush lots of solution making ideas...I found my self addicted with talking (with others) about the all rounded problems of my church - the Ethiopian orthodox Tewahido Church! Not only myself, I also found the number of problems which languishes my church doubled in number and diversified in nature. Therefore, instead of talking to others, I decided to talk to myself now on in this blog. I started blogging about my church. Please pray that I will be in harmony with myself while talking and of course help me and the church taking the Lion's Share through out the journey of this little corner. Azekiri Dingil!
